Gus Van Sant to Receive Venice’s Campari Passion for Film Award as ‘Dead Man’s Wire’ Debuts

• On Sept. 2 at Venice’s Sala Grande, Van Sant will be honored with the Campari Passion for Film Award.
• The prize presentation will immediately precede a gala screening of Dead Man’s Wire, which is set to screen out of competition.
• Dead Man’s Wire stars Bill Skarsgård, Colman Domingo, Dacre Montgomery and Al Pacino in a true-crime thriller about Anthony G. Kiritsis’s 1977 hostage standoff.
• Venice artistic director Alberto Barbera praised Van Sant as a “unique filmmaker” whose work bridges Hollywood storytelling and art-house innovation.
• The award recognizes Van Sant’s four-decade influence from indie landmarks like Drugstore Cowboy and My Own Private Idaho to mainstream successes such as Good Will Hunting and Milk.
