Gurugram Health Team Busts Interstate Fetal Sex‑Determination Racket

Raids found unqualified operators, unregistered machines, money transfers moving pregnant women from Haryana to a house in Bijnor for illegal scans.

Overview

  • A joint operation by Gurugram and Bijnor health teams used a decoy pregnant woman to expose the network and led to arrests of a mediator and the person conducting scans.
  • Authorities say the operation, carried out on Friday, tracked a Delhi meeting, a transfer to Noorpur in Bijnor and a portable ultrasound performed inside a private house.
  • Officials recovered a portable ultrasound machine, a probe and marked currency and reported that the scan operator lacked legal medical qualifications and the site and equipment were not registered under the PCPNDT Act.
  • Investigators allege the mediator charged clients between Rs 25,000 and Rs 40,000 with partial advance payment taken online and that the scheme ferried pregnant women from Gurugram and nearby areas for illicit sex determination.
  • The suspects have been handed to local police and an FIR lists conspiracy, cheating and multiple PCPNDT violations; further legal action and checks on registration and qualifications are expected as the probe continues.
