Gujarat Okays First Eight-Lane Highway on AhmedabadMehsana Route

Officials target a two-year build after tendering to relieve a corridor carrying more than one lakh vehicles a day.

Overview

  • Chaired by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, the Cabinet approved a Rs 2,630 crore upgrade of the 51.60 km stretch from Adalaj to Palavasna Circle to create Gujarat’s first eight-lane highway.
  • The design provides seven-metre service roads on both sides, widens all bridges and culverts to eight lanes, and adds eight new flyovers and eight underpasses.
  • A roughly 6.0–6.10 km elevated section through Kalol will connect five existing overbridges to bypass city traffic, complemented by a new four-lane railway overbridge.
  • The government cites a recent survey showing daily volumes above 100,000 vehicles and says tenders will be issued soon with completion planned two years after allotment.
  • In the same meeting, Rs 2,600 crore under PMGSY was cleared to build 2,020 km of all-weather roads connecting 1,614 tribal hamlets, with costs shared 60:40 by the Centre and state.
