Guido Pini Claims First Moto3 Win With Last-Corner Move at COTA

A split-second mistake at the final turn opened the door for the Leopard Honda rider to seize a breakthrough in the lightweight class.

Overview

  • Pini won by 0.056 seconds after diving under Alvaro Carpe and Valentin Perrone at the final corner, with Maximo Quiles second and Carpe third.
  • Polesitter Carpe led early before a four-rider pack formed with Perrone, Quiles and Pini, who had earlier pulled off a triple overtake to join the fight.
  • Casey O’Gorman ran wide several times and later crashed with three laps left, while Veda Pratama’s highside also took out Joel Esteban.
  • Stewards issued a quick post-race penalty to Adrian Cruces for cutting across Brian Uriarte at the line, which promoted Rico Salmela to sixth and left Uriarte seventh and Cruces eighth.
  • The result keeps Quiles on top of the championship with 65 points, as Carpe moves to second on 38 and Pini jumps to fourth on 36.
