Guardia Nacional Kills Six in Pre-Dawn Clash With Armed Group Near Uruapan

Seized weapons and vehicles are now in custody as federal, army and state forces reinforce patrols to track fleeing suspects.

Overview

  • The Guardia Nacional engaged a convoy of at least 12 armed men traveling in three vehicles around 4:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 24, in Jucutacato near Uruapan, triggering an exchange of gunfire that lasted more than ten minutes.
  • Security forces reported six suspected attackers were killed at the scene, one suspect was detained and the remaining members fled on foot into nearby streets and woodland.
  • Authorities seized three vehicles, seven assault rifles, tactical vests, ammunition and communication gear, and have placed the items under evidence custody for the investigation.
  • Forensic teams from the Fiscalía General del Estado removed the bodies and transferred them to the Servicio Médico Forense for identification and legal procedures.
  • Uruapan hosts multiple criminal groups—including Cártel Nueva Generación, Los Caballeros Templarios, Los Viagras and Cártel de Los Reyes—so officials say the operation will expand patrols and intelligence efforts to prevent further violence and locate the fugitives.
