GTA VI DualSense Pre-Orders Launch as PlayStation Direct Buckles Under Demand

Heavy demand has strained Sony’s PlayStation Direct storefront, leaving many buyers dependent on third‑party retailers or resellers.

Overview

  • Pre-orders for two limited‑edition GTA VI DualSense controllers opened on Thursday, Sept. 10, and PlayStation Direct quickly hit technical problems and long queues that kept many shoppers from checking out.
  • Sony and Rockstar are selling a Black and a White Vice City–themed DualSense at $84.99 in the U.S., both retaining standard DualSense features such as haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, motion controls and a built‑in mic.
  • Distribution differs by color: the Black Limited Edition is exclusive to PlayStation Direct where supported, while the White Limited Edition is also being sold in limited waves at major retailers including Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart and GameStop.
  • Scalpers responded within hours, listing pre-orders on eBay and other sites at substantial markups — some between $140 and $200 — as initial retailer allocations and online waves sold out.
  • Sony says quantities are limited and the controllers ship on game launch day, Nov. 19, so buyers should monitor PlayStation Direct and retailer stock waves for restocks if they do not secure a preorder now.
