Overview
- On Friday, Sept. 11, 2026 a mod called Grand Theft Automated License Plate Reader added 235 destructible Flock-style cameras across GTA V’s Los Santos map.
- The mod makes cameras actively photograph players as they pass and can raise a Wanted level or, at a 1-in-20 chance, trigger a police chase to mirror reported false alerts and inaccurate reporting.
- Players can opt to save in-game camera images with a parody watermark, smash cameras for in-game components worth $600 each, and use built-in speedrun tools that track how quickly cameras are destroyed.
- The modder cited DeFlock.org’s mapping and publicly criticized Flock, saying the 235 cameras represent about one-tenth of the company’s tracked deployments in Los Angeles County.
- The release is a cultural amplification of an ongoing policy story: recent reporting and audits have alleged officer misuse, false alerts, municipal pauses and contract reviews, and the mod could broaden public attention as legal and municipal probes continue.
