GRP Books 42 Railway Staff Over CSMT Flash Strike as Court Reserves Order in Mumbra Case

The police action follows a probe into the June 9 Mumbra fatalities and a November 6 stoppage that preceded two commuters being fatally struck near Sandhurst Road.

Overview

  • CSMT GRP registered an FIR naming CRMS leaders S.K. Dubey and Vivek Sisodia and 40 others for unlawful assembly, wrongful restraint and obstructing staff, alleging they blocked the motormen’s lobby and halted suburban services from about 5:41 pm to 6:38 pm on November 6.
  • Two people were killed and three injured after they were hit by a train near Sandhurst Road as many deboarded and walked on the tracks during the disruption; the GRP has filed accidental death reports and is recording witness statements, with no FIR registered yet in that case.
  • The Thane Sessions Court heard pre-arrest bail pleas of Central Railway engineers Vishal Dolas and Samar Yadav in the Mumbra accident and reserved its order, with the pair booked under BNS provisions including culpable homicide not amounting to murder and acts endangering life.
  • GRP cited a VJTI technical study, CCTV and witness accounts to argue track maintenance lapses, ballast washout and trains brushing caused the June 9 deaths, noting friction marks on coaches and no backpack recovered, while the defence pointed to overcrowding and a railway inquiry that blamed passenger behavior.
  • Central Railway and the GRP remain at odds over sharing internal and technical reports, with the GRP saying documents will be available at chargesheet stage and railway officials asserting their internal report was completed in September and handed over on November 3.
