Overview
- Greg James missed BBC Radio 1’s breakfast show on Thursday after his father, Alan Milward, underwent heart surgery that took much longer than expected and left him in intensive care.
- James posted on Instagram that the operation “went OK” but that his father is “far from out of the woods,” and he said he is not yet in a fit state to be on air.
- He thanked surgeons, nurses, the NHS, his mother and his sister in public updates and shared photos from the hospital to keep listeners informed.
- The present situation follows a March stroke Alan suffered during a planned heart procedure, an event that prompted James to complete a roughly 1,000 km charity tandem ride for Comic Relief in his father’s honour.
- James said he will take additional time off to be with family and asked listeners to keep his father in their thoughts while he aims to be back on air on Friday.
