Greater Noida Woman’s Killing: Police Arrest Suspect After Shootout Near Beta-2

Police cite a confession from a married fruit seller who allegedly strangled her after a rejected proposal, with forensic results still pending.

Overview

  • Deepa, 27, a call-centre employee from Mahoba, was found dead under a parked car about 50 metres from her rented home in Greater Noida’s Beta-2 on Monday morning.
  • Ankit Kumar, identified by police as the suspect, was arrested after a brief encounter near the Dhakiya Wale Baba roundabout in which he was shot in the leg and taken into custody.
  • Investigators say Kumar told them he strangled her when she refused his proposal and then hid the body under a car to make it look like an accident.
  • Police recovered a stolen motorcycle, the victim’s mobile phone, a country-made pistol, one used cartridge and two live cartridges during the arrest.
  • CCTV review, call-location analysis and medico-legal examinations are underway, and officials say the post-mortem and any determination on sexual assault are still awaited.
