Overview
- The annual event is organized by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, the National Audubon Society and Birds Canada.
- Participants of any skill level are asked to observe birds for at least 15 minutes at least once during the four-day window and count what they see or hear.
- Sightings and photos can be submitted through BirdCount.org or via the eBird and Merlin Bird ID apps on iOS and Android.
- Results are displayed in near real time to help take stock of worldwide populations before migration begins in March.
- In 2024, roughly 642,000 people from 210 countries or subregions reported 7,920 species.
