Grand Canyon Investigators Seek Man Who Returned Missing ASU Student’s Backpack

Officials say the man could help pinpoint the search area by explaining where the bag was found.

Overview

  • Park investigators are asking the public to identify the person who turned in Sandarsh Krishna’s backpack at Bright Angel Lodge, saying he is a potential witness and not a suspect.
  • Krishna, 26, last contacted his family on April 27 after a visit to the Grand Canyon’s South Rim during a planned trip that included Las Vegas.
  • The black backpack was handed to the lodge’s lost and found around 7 a.m. on April 28 with no name and no description of the location where it was discovered.
  • Investigators have narrowed Krishna’s possible location to the Rim Trail off Hermit Road between Bright Angel Lodge and Mojave Point, using cell-tower hits that span from Mojave Point to Pima Point.
  • His family has hired a private investigator and says the timing is urgent as he was due to finish finals and graduate this week, and anyone with information is urged to call or text the Grand Canyon tipline at 1-888-653-0009.
