Grab to Acquire Foodpanda Taiwan for $600 Million

Approval by Taiwan’s antitrust watchdog will test a market long dominated by Foodpanda and Uber Eats.

Overview

  • Grab and Delivery Hero announced a cash deal on Monday to sell Foodpanda Taiwan for $600 million, subject to regulatory approval with closing targeted in the second half of 2026.
  • Grab says the move opens its ninth market and first outside Southeast Asia, with users, restaurants, and couriers slated to shift to the Grab app by early 2027.
  • Delivery Hero reports the Taiwan unit generated about €1.5 billion in 2025 order value and posted positive adjusted profit, while Grab targets unit profitability by late 2027 and at least $60 million in incremental adjusted EBITDA in 2028.
  • Delivery Hero plans to use the proceeds to pay down debt, which it says will lower net leverage from roughly 2.7 times to 2.2 times, and it will keep tech and support services running for up to 12 months with some help into 2027.
  • Regulators will weigh market concentration after blocking an Uber–Foodpanda tie-up in 2025, and this review could shape how strongly Grab competes with Uber Eats and what that means for prices and pay in Taiwan’s delivery market.
