Government Reports 94.82% Conviction Rate in ED Money-Laundering Cases as of 2025

The figures come from a written reply to the Rajya Sabha by Minister Pankaj Chaudhary.

Overview

  • Special PMLA courts delivered judgments in 58 cases, with convictions in 55 matters involving 123 accused.
  • Since 2020–21, the ED secured convictions in 43 PMLA cases, accounting for 104 convicted accused.
  • The agency initiated 5,158 PMLA investigations since 2020–21, bringing total registered cases to 8,391, and filed 1,960 prosecution complaints.
  • Following an August 2019 amendment that created a formal closure-report process, the ED filed 93 closure reports, compared with 1,185 case closures approved by regional Special Directors before that change.
  • The government says the ED is accelerating inquiries using national and international databases, forensic tools, artificial intelligence, OSINT techniques, and other digital resources.
