Government Reports 40% of Digital Services Restored After NIRS Data Center Fire

Officials say normalizing the nTOPS management platform is helping speed the recovery.

Overview

  • The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters said 287 of 709 affected systems were online as of noon Tuesday, a 40.5 percent recovery.
  • Among top-priority Level 1 services, 31 of 40 are restored for a 77.5 percent rate, with Level 2 at 51.5 percent, Level 3 at 45.6 percent, and Level 4 at 30 percent.
  • Authorities restored several Level 3 and Level 4 systems on Monday, including the Interior Ministry’s website management platform and the Ministry of Data and Statistics’ administrative data integration system.
  • Interior Minister Yun Ho-jung urged an expedited timeline and noted that power has been reinstated to Computer Room 8 after dust removal, supporting faster service recovery.
  • Investigators attribute the Sept. 26 blaze to a suspected lithium-ion battery explosion and are examining reports that sparks during a UPS battery move may have ignited the fire, as the NIRS chief acknowledged procedural weaknesses.
