Government Pilots Voting Hubs and Weekend Voting for May 7 Local Elections

Officials will use the results to decide on any wider rollout.

Overview

  • Four areas in England will take part in the pilots: Milton Keynes, Cambridge, Tunbridge Wells and North Hertfordshire.
  • Milton Keynes will trial an election-day voting hub at centre:mk, while the other three areas will offer in-person early voting over several days including the weekend.
  • Cambridge hubs are confirmed at Guildhall, the Clay Farm Centre and the Meadows Community Centre, with sites in Tunbridge Wells and North Hertfordshire to be announced.
  • Conventional polling stations will remain open, and postal and proxy voting options continue unchanged.
  • MHCLG will evaluate the pilots after the May elections and publish findings later in 2026, with the announcement made alongside a bill to lower the voting age to 16.
