Overview
- On Wednesday the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero published a first wave of 43 transmission projects expected to qualify for a Bill Discount Scheme that will give households within 500 metres up to £2,500 over 10 years.
- Ofgem will run the scheme and most qualifying homes will get automatic six‑monthly credits through their energy supplier with the first payments due in the first half of 2027.
- Only new onshore overground transmission works where main construction began on or after 10 March 2025 will be in scope and projects must have secured required consents before residents become eligible.
- The Warm Home Discount has been extended through winter 2030/31 and continues to offer an annual £150 rebate to roughly six million households but claimants must ensure their supplier account details are up to date to receive payments automatically.
- Separately, the Resolution Foundation is pressing ministers to add a temporary, income‑tested unit discount costing about £2bn that would average £175 per eligible low‑income household and be ready to switch on by January 2027.
