Overview
- On Thursday, Jammu and Kashmir police flagged off 45 specialised mountain rescue teams drawn from J&K Police, SDRF, NDRF, CRPF, BSF and SSB to be posted at 21 strategic sites along the Pahalgam and Baltal routes for rapid response to landslides, weather emergencies and injuries.
- The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has approved deployment of 670 CAPF companies — the largest force level for the Yatra — and officials say roughly 90 percent of the contingents are already in position as forces finish pre-deployment tasks.
- A CRPF 30-person Mountain Rescue Team has been readied for the Baltal axis with oxygen cylinders, portable stretchers, ropes and medicines to treat altitude sickness and to assist in evacuations and flood or landslide response.
- Authorities are rolling out an expanded tech and screening layer that includes CCTV and drone networks, RFID tracking for registered pilgrims, X-ray and explosive detectors, RCIED countermeasures and elevated watchtowers to strengthen route surveillance and access control.
- The stepped-up plan follows the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack and has Army Northern Command reviews and an MHA on-ground inspection scheduled for June 20–21 to finalise convoy protection, base-camp logistics and joint SOPs designed to keep pilgrims safe while regular counter‑insurgency operations continue.
