Government Convenes Jan. 27 All-Party Meet to Set Parliament’s Budget Session Agenda

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Union Budget on Sunday, February 1 at 11 am.

Overview

  • The Budget Session will run in two phases from January 28 to February 13 and March 9 to April 2, for a total of 30 sittings.
  • President Droupadi Murmu will open the session with an address to a joint sitting of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
  • The all-party meeting, called by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, is scheduled for 11 am on January 27 in the Parliament House Annexe main committee room.
  • Nine bills are pending before the Lok Sabha, including the Viksit Bharat Shiksha Adhishthan Bill, the Securities Markets Code, and the Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty-ninth Amendment) Bill, 2024.
  • Analysts expect sustained public capex around 3.1% of GDP alongside fiscal consolidation, with possible rationalisation of customs duties and TDS to ease compliance.
