Overview
- A joint announcement made Tuesday confirmed Gotham FC will begin playing home matches at Etihad Park in Queens for the 2028 NWSL season under an initial five-year lease with options to extend up to 15 years.
- Etihad Park is a $780 million, 25,000-seat soccer-specific stadium scheduled to open in spring 2027 that will be NYCFC’s primary home and is planned to host international events including Olympic soccer in 2028.
- The tenancy agreement includes dedicated Gotham facilities such as a separate locker room and the ability to switch the stadium’s digital branding on matchdays to create an exclusive Gotham matchday identity.
- Gotham will keep its new $35 million training facility in Whippany, New Jersey, and will play one final season at Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison in 2027 before moving to Queens.
- City and state leaders hailed the move as a boost to transit access and local business in Queens and as a step to raise the profile and commercial footing of a leading women’s club in New York City.
