Google Wallet Adds Notification Feed and Expands Digital Passport Support

The update centralizes Wallet alerts and lets users enroll passports through an in‑app ID pass flow that verifies the passport chip and a short face video.

Overview

  • Google has added a bell-shaped notification feed inside Wallet to show updates about saved passes and documents in one place, and the feature is being enabled gradually from Google’s servers.
  • The app now lists passports as an “ID pass” and reports say Ireland and Italy are newly supported with additional sightings of Estonia and Spain being added in some accounts.
  • Users add a passport by tapping the plus button, selecting IDs & personal info then ID pass, scanning the passport info page and its security chip, and recording a quick face-video for verification.
  • A confirmation notification arrives after verification and the stored digital passport can be used for identity checks at compatible security points but does not replace a physical passport for international travel.
  • This extends earlier support for countries such as Brazil, Singapore, Taiwan, the UK and the US and will only grow in usefulness as governments and airports add official support for digital ID checks.
