Google Tests Quick Settings Layout Editor in Android Canary 2608
This experimental release signals Google moving Pixel toward OEM-style UI customization, shortening testing support for older flagship phones.
Overview
- Android Canary 2608 adds a new Layout tab inside the Quick Settings editor that lets users reorder the brightness bar, media player, and the block of tiles into six preset arrangements.
- The update restores App lock at Settings > Settings & privacy > Privacy > App lock so users can lock apps using the system setting rather than third-party tools.
- The Canary build ZP11.260717.006 includes the August 2026 security patch and is available for a wide range of Pixels from the Pixel 6 line through the Pixel 10 series, plus the Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet.
- Google warns that Canary builds are highly experimental and says the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will not get further Canary releases; users who leave Canary must flash the latest stable production build and expect a full data wipe.
- Testing Quick Settings layout on Canary brings Pixel closer to other OEMs’ customization options and could reach stable releases, but users should expect instability and potential data-loss when running or exiting Canary builds.
