Google Tests Gemini 'Thinking Level' and Teases New Canva, Instacart, OpenTable Links

The quiet update signals a shift toward consistent reasoning controls that put Gemini to work on real tasks.

Overview

  • Google has begun a limited rollout of a new Thinking level in the Gemini app, offering Standard or Extended modes when using Fast (Gemini 3 Flash) or Gemini 3.1 Pro.
  • Extended is built for harder prompts that need more processing time, mirroring the thinking options already available to developers in Google AI Studio.
  • Google support pages show upcoming integrations with Canva, Instacart, and OpenTable, expanding beyond current partners like GitHub, OpenStax, Spotify, and WhatsApp, and these have not rolled out yet.
  • With Canva connected, Gemini will be able to create designs from prompts, access and move project files, list and reply to comments, and generate images to edit in Canva.
  • Instacart and OpenTable links will let Gemini check nearby store stock and add items to a cart using a saved Instacart address, and find, book, change, or cancel restaurant reservations through Reserve with Google.
