Google Rolls Out Transit Mode to Pixel in March Feature Drop

It learns your routine through Google Maps Timeline and may take two to three weeks before commute alerts start to appear.

Overview

  • Transit mode automates commuting behavior by adjusting sound, Bluetooth, and which people or apps can notify you while you travel.
  • Real-time commute information expands in At a Glance, showing lock and home screen alerts such as significant delays and specific line issues.
  • Setup lives under Settings > Modes > Transit > App Settings > Set up commute notifications, where you add home and work, confirm location settings, and build a commute profile.
  • Availability requires a Google account and Google Maps on Pixel 7 or newer devices, excludes Pixel Tablet, and is offered globally except in Europe and the UK, with possible language limits.
  • The feature ships with Android 16 QPR3 as a phased rollout, and some users—including reporters—have not yet seen Transit appear in the Modes list.
