Google Rolls Out May Android 16 Pixel Update With Fixes and Pixel 10 Anti-Rollback

A new bootloader on Pixel 10 models blocks downgrades, creating extra risk for people who flash software by hand.

Overview

  • Google’s May Android 16 update for Pixels, which began rolling out Tuesday, brings build CP1A.260505.005 with the May security patch to devices from Pixel 7a through Pixel 10a, plus the Tablet and Fold.
  • Across supported models, Google fixes slow wireless charging that kicked in between 75% and 80% battery, restoring expected speeds in that range.
  • The update also tackles user-facing glitches, including a keyboard that could freeze or appear in the wrong place in some apps, and a camera bug on the base Pixel 10 that froze while recording video and changing zoom.
  • For the Pixel 10 line, Google addresses display problems by removing a persistent flickering white dot and reducing cases where the screen appeared fuzzy, froze, or showed noise lines.
  • Pixel 10 devices now have an anti-rollback bootloader that blocks older Android 16 builds, and because Pixels keep two system slots for seamless updates, Google says to sideload the full OTA after first boot so both slots carry the new bootloader and the phone remains bootable.
