Google Renames NotebookLM to Gemini Notebook

The rebrand folds the research tool into Gemini to deliver per‑notebook cloud code execution and tighter product links while Google stages access through paid tiers.

Overview

  • Google announced the change on July 16, 2026, and says the standalone research app will now be called Gemini Notebook while continuing to operate as a separate product.
  • Each notebook is being given a secure cloud computer that lets the tool write and execute code natively so users can run dataset analysis and produce files such as PDFs, slides, charts, CSVs and JSON.
  • The cloud execution and the Gemini 3.5/Antigravity engine upgrade are available now to Google AI Ultra subscribers and eligible Workspace business customers and will reach Pro web users over the coming weeks.
  • Notebooks already sync with the Gemini app and Google says it will surface notebooks inside Search’s AI Mode soon, though Google has not announced a timeline for mobile or free‑tier availability.
  • Google says more than 30 million people and over 600,000 organizations use the product, and observers warn that automated code generation can be opaque or incorrect so users will need to verify results and build AI literacy.
