Overview
- Google Messages, which began a wider rollout Monday, now sends deleted chats to a Trash folder that users can review before they are gone for good.
- Deleted threads stay for up to 30 days, and users can restore a conversation or delete it permanently at any time during that window.
- On Android Go phones, the Trash holds chats for 7 days to reduce storage use.
- You can find Trash by tapping your profile picture in the top right, opening the More from this app menu, and choosing Trash below Archived.
- New texts from a contact whose thread is in Trash appear as a fresh conversation rather than reviving the old one, and the feature may require updating the app.
