Google Meet Arrives on Apple CarPlay in Audio-Only Mode

The design keeps eyes on the road by removing video features.

Overview

  • Google is rolling out CarPlay support for Meet to iPhone users, letting drivers join meetings from the dashboard and view their upcoming schedule.
  • Calls run in audio only, with the camera off and no incoming video to reduce distraction during driving.
  • Controls are intentionally sparse, limited to mute, unmute, and leave, with no chat, hand raise, polls, Q&A, or pre-call screen.
  • Meet hands off to the car automatically, using the vehicle speakers and built-in microphone, so an active call can move from the phone to the dash with one tap.
  • The feature is enabled by default for users with the iPhone app, it is available to all Google account types, and Google says Android Auto support is coming soon.
