Google Maps Code Points to Bulk Delete of User-Submitted Incident Reports

Code in version 26.04.01 indicates a privacy control to remove a user's reporting history.

Overview

  • Android Authority found references in the Android app code to a setting that lets users remove past traffic and incident reports tied to their account.
  • The option is shown under Settings > Location & Privacy and targets contributions such as accidents, road conditions, transit issues and travel disruptions.
  • Current implementation appears to allow only bulk removal of all past reports rather than deletion of individual entries.
  • Reports that remain live for other drivers would not be taken down, though past contributions would be detached from the user's profile.
  • Google has not announced a rollout timeline, and code also points to tests of a redesigned Contribute tab.
