Overview
- Google announced Thursday the $99.99 Fitbit Air, which is now up for pre-order and set to ship May 26 with a three-month Google Health Premium trial.
- The pebble-style band drops the screen in favor of 24/7 sensors for heart rate, SpO2, skin temperature and motion, offers AFib alerts, and runs up to seven days with five-minute quick top-ups for a day of use.
- Google said the Fitbit app will become Google Health starting May 19, bringing a Gemini-based Health Coach under a $9.99-per-month or $99-per-year subscription.
- The Air works with Android and iOS, can be worn alongside a Pixel Watch with data synced in the new app, and comes with swappable bands plus a $129.99 Stephen Curry Special Edition.
- Google pledged not to use health data for ads and to keep AI training opt-in, as it targets Whoop-style recovery trackers by undercutting rivals on price.
