Google Issues July Pixel Patch to Fix Boot Loops and App Crashes

The monthly Android 17 maintenance update targets stability problems and is being rolled out while additional widget fixes are tested in the QPR1 beta.

Overview

  • Google began a phased over-the-air rollout of the July 2026 Android 17 maintenance patch on July 7, and factory images and OTA files are available for manual sideloading.
  • The changelog lists five non-security fixes that address app crashes and launch failures, system widgets showing wrong colors or contrast, wallpaper shape errors, a boot-loop that left some devices unable to load Android, and a navigation alignment bug on the Pixel 10 Pro Fold.
  • Google’s Pixel security bulletin shows no new security vulnerability patches in this release, making it a quality and stability update rather than a security one.
  • The update covers a wide set of Pixel hardware from the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro through the Pixel 10 family, plus tablets, A-series and foldables, which is notable given the older models’ shifted update cadence.
  • Carrier approvals may delay when the OTA reaches individual users and Google is continuing to address disappearing widgets through Android 17 QPR1 beta testing now at Platform Stability.
