Google Integrates Gemini AI Into Chrome on Android

The update speeds mobile browsing by adding page summaries, app links and image tools with agentic auto-browse restricted to paid tiers.

Overview

  • Google began rolling out the Gemini integration to Chrome on U.S. Android phones on Tuesday, bringing in-browser webpage summarization and a conversational Q&A about the page you are viewing.
  • All U.S. Android users can now tap a Gemini shortcut or use the three-dot menu to save content to Google apps like Calendar and Keep and to generate images with the Nano Banana tool.
  • AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers gain access to auto-browse, an agentic feature that can carry out multi-step tasks such as ordering items or booking events on the user’s behalf.
  • Google requires Gemini to show a visible task plan and to prompt users for confirmation before executing auto-browse actions, and the feature is not available in Incognito or without Chrome sign-in.
  • The rollout is gradual and device-limited, which may affect availability on older phones and managed work accounts, and the change could reduce repetitive mobile tasks while raising new questions about permissions and enterprise controls.
