Google Inaugurates São Paulo Engineering Center at IPT Campus

The 400-capacity center will host Latin America's first Accessibility Discovery Centre, introducing Google's first Safety Engineering Center outside Europe.

Overview

  • Google formally opened the new engineering center on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, converting the historic Adriano Marchini building on the IPT campus near USP into a 7,000 m² R&D hub.
  • The site has room for 400 staff who are expected to begin occupying and working from the facility starting in July 2026.
  • Teams at the center will focus on artificial intelligence, user safety, privacy protections and assistive technologies and will house the Google Safety Engineering Center and the Accessibility Discovery Centre.
  • The project is governed by a 10-year cooperation agreement between Google, IPT and the São Paulo state government that required Google to revitalize library, acervo and maker spaces in the historic building.
  • The complex includes a Google Campus for AI startups to promote local technology transfer, and officials used the inauguration to press Google to keep and expand operations in Brazil as investment costs were not disclosed.
