Google Health Adds Apple Health Write Sync in v5.05

The update lets Fitbit and Google Health data flow into Apple’s Health app and signals simpler cross‑platform data sharing for iPhone users.

Overview

  • Google began rolling out version 5.05 on Monday, August 3, and the iOS release lets Google Health write data back into Apple Health once users grant permission.
  • The sync covers exercise records, step counts, sleep sessions, heart rate and other vitals but excludes heart rate variability because the two platforms calculate HRV differently.
  • During setup users choose exact categories and metrics to share and can pick how much history to send, for example the past 30 days or full history.
  • A U.S.-only feature called Smart Health Links lets users create encrypted URLs or QR codes to share medical-record summaries with providers or family members.
  • The change removes the need for third‑party syncing workarounds for many Fitbit owners, but availability is phased with Android rollout still in progress and shared Apple Health data may become visible to other HealthKit apps.
