Google Health 5.02 Begins Rolling Out With Hourly Activity and Sleep Fixes

Google is restoring removed Fitbit-era features through phased app updates that promise fuller platform parity.

Overview

  • Google began rolling out Google Health version 5.02 on June 18, with iOS widely available and Android receiving the update in phases over the coming weeks.
  • The release restores Hourly Activity charts to the Today and Health tabs so users can see steps per hour and add the chart to their dashboards.
  • The update fixes key sleep tracking problems by moving the Restlessness bar closer to sleep stages, improving detection of short awake moments, and enabling users to edit or delete sleep sessions.
  • Android-only additions in 5.02 include a visible Naps view and drag‑and‑drop reordering of Key Metrics on the Health tab, with Google saying similar features will reach iOS in a later release (v5.03).
  • Google added log-deletion controls for exercise, food, and weight entries inside the app but still directs Health Connect and Apple Health imports back to those platforms for deletion, and the changes follow strong user backlash after the Fitbit app was rebranded.
