Overview
- Google has started rolling out Google Health 5.0 as an update to the Fitbit app on Android, replacing Fitbit branding inside the app and adopting a new Google Health icon.
- The update introduces a configurable Quick Access Widget that replaces the old circular Steps widget, mirrors the stats users select, and can show up to six metrics on a 5×3 homescreen layout.
- The widget supports direct interactions: tapping a metric opens its full stats page, a heart shortcut opens the app, there are quick jumps to the Health Coach, and a refresh control with a last-updated timestamp.
- Google says version 5.0 is required to set up the new Fitbit Air tracker and is positioning the Fitbit name for hardware only while some legacy Fitbit app features will not move to Google Health and Google Fit will be retired with a migration tool planned.
- Users should expect tighter app-device coordination and new subscription services such as a Gemini-based AI Health Coach in Google Health Premium, and they should check for missing legacy features and migration details before upgrading.
