Google Expands Gemini in Chrome to India, Canada and New Zealand

Google emphasizes layered safeguards, keeping auto-browse agents confined to U.S. subscribers.

Overview

  • Chrome’s built-in assistant is powered by Gemini 3.1 and adds Nano Banana 2 for on-the-fly image transformations inside the browser.
  • Availability starts on Mac, Windows, Chromebook Plus and Chrome for iOS, with Android access triggered via the power button.
  • Users can open a sidebar to get summaries, ask questions with context from up to 10 tabs, and tap Gmail, Maps, Calendar and YouTube to act on tasks, including composing and sending emails.
  • The rollout adds support for more than 50 languages, including eight Indic options: Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Telugu and Tamil.
  • Google cites prompt‑injection detection, confirmation gates and rapid auto‑updates, as coverage recalls an earlier high‑severity side‑panel vulnerability that the company says it has addressed.
