Google Expands Gemini for Home to 16 Countries in Early Access

The opt-in rollout signals Google’s push to swap out Assistant for a faster, context-aware home voice system.

Overview

  • Gemini for Home, which Google disclosed Wednesday, is rolling out as an opt-in update over about a week through the Google Home app version 4.12 or newer.
  • The expansion adds support for Danish, Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Norwegian, Spanish, and Swedish across new markets including the UK, France, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand.
  • Google says common smart home commands now run up to 40% faster with better device recognition, shorter replies for timers and alarms, finer controls like humidity targets or oven preheats, and Live Camera Search for Google Home Premium.
  • The Google Home app now works with Google Workspace accounts, letting users invite people across different domains, migrate existing Nest accounts, and set up devices like Nest thermostats and cameras from work or custom-domain accounts.
  • A one-click transfer in Public Preview moves older Nest thermostats, cameras, locks, and smoke alarms into the Google Home app, which helps households consolidate controls in one place and retire the legacy Nest app.
