Overview
- Pay.sh, launched Tuesday by the Solana Foundation and Google Cloud, lets AI agents find APIs, see live prices, and pay per request from a Solana wallet.
- Supported endpoints include Google Cloud’s Gemini, BigQuery, BigTable, Vertex AI, and Cloud Run, plus more than 50 community providers such as Helius, Alchemy, The Graph, Dune Analytics, and Nansen.
- The system runs as an API proxy on Google Cloud that uses the x402 and Machine Payments Protocol standards to authorize calls and meter usage.
- x402 builds on the web’s HTTP 402 “Payment Required” code so an API can request payment inside the request itself, and the protocol’s stewardship now sits with the Linux Foundation after early work at Coinbase.
- Payments settle in Solana-based stablecoins within seconds at low cost, with provider tools for rate limits and access controls, and the next test is developer uptake, provider onboarding, and enterprise reconciliation and compliance.
