Google Chrome Rolls Out Split View, PDF Annotations, and Save to Drive on Desktop

The update keeps common tasks inside the browser to cut switching.

Overview

  • Google officially announced the trio for desktop today, with broad availability expected in Chrome 145.
  • Split View displays two pages side by side; enable it via right‑clicking a link for “Open Link in Split View” or by dragging a tab to the window edge, with controls to separate, close, or reverse panes.
  • Early testers reported using Split View to grade papers, take notes alongside videos, and reference documentation while coding.
  • Chrome’s PDF Viewer now supports annotations, allowing text highlighting and notes via a squiggle icon that offers size and color options.
  • A new Save to Google Drive button in the PDF toolbar uploads files directly to a “Saved from Chrome” folder, with the option to choose the destination account.
