Google Centers Gemini 3.5 and Cloud Agents in Major I/O Push

Google shifts core products toward always-on cloud agents.

Overview

  • Gemini 3.5 Flash, which Google made the default model for the Gemini app and Search on Tuesday, prioritizes speed and coding/agentic performance and will be joined by a 3.5 Pro release next month.
  • Gemini Spark is a cloud-based personal agent that can run continuously and act across Gmail, Docs and third-party apps, and it is available to trusted testers now with a U.S. beta for Google AI Ultra subscribers scheduled next week.
  • Gemini Omni Flash, the multimodal world model for video generation and conversational editing, is rolling to paying subscribers and will be available in YouTube Shorts/Create this week, with all Omni videos carrying Google’s SynthID watermark and planned content-credential checks.
  • The Gemini app is receiving a global 'Neural Expressive' redesign that adds richer multimedia responses, integrated voice (Gemini Live) and new services such as Universal Cart, Search Agents and Gmail Live that will phase into testing and broader rollouts this summer.
  • Google said the moves back a major infrastructure build to handle surging AI use—reporting Gemini growth from ~400 million to ~900 million monthly users—and noted subscription prices remain disputed while some on-device Gemini features still require newer flagship hardware.
