Google Brings AirDrop-Compatible Quick Share to Pixel 9 Phones as Visibility Tightens

Transfers run over direct peer-to-peer links with consent plus time-limited visibility for privacy.

Overview

  • Google has begun a phased rollout that enables Pixel 9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL, and 9 Pro Fold to exchange files with Apple devices using AirDrop.
  • To share across platforms, the Apple device must switch AirDrop to “Everyone for 10 Minutes,” and the recipient must approve the request.
  • Google says connections are direct and peer-to-peer with no server routing or content logging, supported by multi-layered protections.
  • The always-on “Everyone” receiving option has been removed on Pixel devices, leaving time-limited visibility options reported as a server-side change.
  • The update excludes the Pixel 9a for now and is delivered through Play Services and the Quick Share Extension, with availability expanding over the coming weeks.
