Google Adds Two New Search Settings to Separate History and Personalization

The change is meant to give users clearer control over which searches and media Google stores and whether results are tailored to them.

Overview

  • Users began receiving emails and in‑app notices May 26–27 and the new toggles will roll out to accounts over the next few days to weeks.
  • The new Search Services History setting controls whether Google saves your queries and activity across Search, Maps, Shopping, Flights, Hotels, Translate, and News.
  • A Saved Media subsetting inside Search Services History will store images, audio, video, and files captured by Lens, voice search, and Search Live and can be turned off separately or have individual items deleted.
  • A separate Personalized Recommendations toggle lets people choose whether their saved history is used to customize search results, feeds, and AI responses.
  • Google will migrate users’ existing Web & App Activity and Search Personalization choices and preserve auto‑delete schedules, and it says saved media may be used to improve services and AI under its privacy and security protections.
