- Google began a phased global rollout on Thursday of an opt-in “selfie video” sign-in that lets eligible personal Google Accounts use a short guided video as a backup way to regain access.
- To enroll users record a brief guided clip with a few head movements that Google saves as an encrypted reference and later matches against a fresh live video to verify liveness.
- Google says the saved video is stored only with consent, can be deleted at any time, and is used for sign-in by default with an optional toggle to let Google reuse the clip to improve verification or create AI avatars.
- The option is not available for Google Workspace accounts, child accounts, or accounts in the Advanced Protection Program and must be set up while the user still has account access.
