Overview
- Google announced the changes on Thursday, August 20, 2026, and said the prompt-driven Discover customization will roll out in the coming days while other controls arrive across Search, Discover, and Google News.
- Discover will gain a prompt-based chat flow that lets users type what topics or links they want more or less of, with the feed adjusting immediately and the system remembering follow-up preferences.
- Google News will let users build customizable daily audio briefings by selecting specific topics within categories such as Headlines, Business, Entertainment, Sports, and Science and technology.
- Publishers can embed a Preferred Sources button that adds their site as a prioritized source and can push readers back to the article in-place while influencing placement in Search’s Top Stories carousel and Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode.
- Google began testing the Discover prompt flow last year, and the company says these tools aim to reduce cases where single user actions skew recommendations and to give both readers and publishers clearer signals about what should surface.
