Google Adds 10,000+ Free On‑Demand Titles to Google TV Freeplay

The change makes a large, app-free library and an expanded live lineup available on Google TV devices and signals a push into the growing free, ad-supported streaming market.

Overview

  • Google announced the update on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, saying Freeplay now includes more than 10,000 free movies and TV shows that users can stream without a subscription.
  • The on-demand catalog draws from studio partners such as A24 and Lionsgate and lists examples including Lady Bird, Seventeen Again, and Hell’s Kitchen.
  • Google also said it has expanded Freeplay’s live channel slate to over 300 free channels, adding new feeds like World of Love Island, Bloomberg TV+, Yahoo! Sports Network, and The Martha Stewart Channel.
  • Freeplay is built into the Google TV Home screen so U.S. device owners can access the new tabs for “Live TV” and “Free movies & shows” without downloading extra apps, and Google says the rollout begins immediately with staged availability.
  • The move places Google TV Freeplay alongside FAST rivals like Tubi, The Roku Channel, and Pluto TV and could give consumers a low‑cost alternative as Google refreshes the library throughout the year and advertisers gain another ad-supported outlet.
