Golden Gate Bridge to Host July 4 Fireworks for Third Time

City officials finalized a layered launch plan with strict closures, heavy enforcement, boosted transit, maritime patrols to manage expected massive crowds.

Overview

  • The fireworks show is scheduled to begin at 9:30 p.m. Saturday and will fire from the Golden Gate Bridge and two barges on the bay.
  • Organizers installed more than 5,000 devices on the bridge and about 1,500 devices on each barge, with launches staged from roughly 75 feet up to 1,200 feet to reduce fog impact.
  • The Golden Gate Bridge will be fully closed from 9 to 10 p.m. with lane restrictions starting at 8 p.m., and major streets, parking lots and waterfront areas will be limited to local residents with ID checks.
  • SFMTA is running special Muni shuttles and officials urged visitors not to drive into the city because parking will be severely limited, while the U.S. Coast Guard will patrol maritime exclusion zones.
  • Officials warn the event will draw very large crowds and disrupt neighborhoods and traffic, and they have coordinated Caltrans, SFPD, fire crews and Pyro Spectaculars to manage safety and crowd control.
