Golden Gate Bridge to Close for July 4 Fireworks

Large-scale closures plus an FAA no-drone zone aim to secure the launch site.

Overview

  • City officials will launch fireworks from the east side of the Golden Gate Bridge and nearby barges with the show scheduled to begin about 9:30 p.m. on Saturday.
  • The bridge will be closed to all traffic between roughly 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. with Caltrans starting Highway 101 ramp and lane closures at 8 p.m.
  • Pedestrian staging will block the east sidewalk from July 3 through July 5, multiple waterfront parking lots will close early on July 4, and many Marina and Fisherman’s Wharf streets will be restricted to local access.
  • SFMTA is running special Muni shuttle service from about 4 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. and is urging spectators to use transit because neighborhood parking and curb space will be scarce.
  • The FAA has imposed a temporary flight restriction from the surface to 2,000 feet banning unauthorized drones with steep fines and possible prosecution, and forecasters warn a marine layer makes partial obscuration of the display more likely than a fully clear view.
