Provincial officials say the new link will boost inbound tourism and reinforce Salta’s role as the main gateway to Argentina’s northwest.

Overview

  • Provincial and airline officials announced the route at a presentation on Thursday, May 21, and published schedules, signed a collaboration agreement, and put tickets on sale the same day with an inaugural flight set for December 17, 2026.
  • Gol Linhas Aéreas will operate two weekly round trips between Salta’s Martín Miguel de Güemes airport and Rio de Janeiro’s Galeão airport.
  • The published timetable shows departures from Salta on Mondays and Fridays at 02:30 with arrival in Rio at 06:00, and returns from Rio on Thursdays and Sundays at 21:45 with arrival in Salta at 01:30.
  • Officials framed the route as a tool to grow inbound tourism, economic activity, and jobs in the province, and the announcement included the tourism minister, Gol management, and Brazil’s honorary consul at the event.
  • The new link adds to Salta’s existing international connections to Lima, Panama and Asunción and is presented as a step to strengthen the province’s status as a regional gateway for the NOA and NEA.
