Going-to-the-Sun Road Fully Reopens to Motor Vehicles

The National Park Service removed advance vehicle reservations, introducing a July 1 three-hour parking limit at Logan Pass along with a low-cost ticketed shuttle to ease crowding.

Overview

  • Park crews cleared the final snowbanks and opened the full 50-mile Going-to-the-Sun Road to motorized vehicles on June 22, 2026.
  • The National Park Service has suspended the season vehicle reservation requirement so drivers no longer need an advance pass to use the corridor.
  • Starting July 1, Logan Pass will enforce a three-hour parking limit and visitors who want to remain for the day must use a new ticketed shuttle that costs about $1 and is sold on Recreation.gov.
  • Opening-day traffic produced long backups at the West Glacier entrance and the NPS warns visitors to expect waits of up to two miles and 30 minutes at peak times, limited cell service, and crowded parking areas.
  • Crews spent weeks plowing windblown snow that reached bank heights as deep as 80 feet, and the park is reactivating bicycle time-of-day rules and standard high-altitude safety guidance to protect visitors and fragile alpine terrain.
